HP Tech Ventures to start screening Ukrainian startups

HP Tech Ventures will help Ukrainian innovative, expansion stage startups build enterprise-grade capabilities, develop paths to market and scale globally

HP Inc, the world leader in personal computers, as well as, consumer and commercial printing, announced the launch of its corporate venture arm in May 2016. HP Tech Ventures, invests globally in early-stage companies where HP can provide strategic value: 3D Printing, IoT, Immersive (VR, AR, and HCI), and Smart Machines (Robotics and AI).

As one of the global leaders in software, mechanical, and electrical engineering talent, HP Tech Ventures expects many future innovations to come from Ukraine. To show its support, HP Tech Ventures joined over 40 existing investors and became a member of UVCA (Ukrainian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association).

“During Silicon Valley UVCA Tour organised in May for our investors’ we’ve met with management of the Fund, presenting Ukraine’s investment opportunities. And now we are extremely glad to welcome HP Tech Ventures in Ukraine. We hope that due to our cooperation it will find interesting startups to invest exactly in Ukraine - especially now there is a wide range of projects: over 2500 startups in our country, and the number is growing. I am sure that other members of Association will help the fund to feel like at home and to immerse in the Ukrainian Venture Ecosystem. Hope it will soon result in the deals, that will continue demonstrating the whole world that investments in Ukraine not only can be made, but must be made” - Executive Director of UVCA, Olga Afanasyeva

“We are excited to support Ukraine’s growing startup ecosystem. Each of the world leading innovation clusters (Silicon Valley, Tel Aviv, London, Berlin, Singapore) has found success by bringing together entrepreneurs, investors, enterprises, government, and universities to take advantage of their unique regional secret sauce. Though still early and missing many necessary ingredients, Ukraine is undeniably one of the leaders in many technological and scientific fields. We expect great things from Ukraine’s massive pool of engineering talent and are doing our part to help foster innovation while providing a bridge to Silicon Valley.“ - Investment Lead at HP Tech Ventures, Vitaly M. Golomb

Ukrainian companies have attracted more foreign investors last year without losing interest at the local market. About half of the deals (48%) in 2015 (according to UVCA Private Equity and Venture Capital Overview) have been closed with the participation of international funds. This fact demonstrates interest of international partners in Ukraine, and shows the recognition of Ukrainian startups on the global market.

HP Tech Ventures is the corporate venture arm of Silicon Valley’s original startup. The Palo Alto and Tel Aviv based team invests globally in early-stage companies where HP can provide strategic value: 3D Printing, IoT, Immersive (VR, AR, and HCI), and Smart Machines (Robotics and AI)

Ukrainian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (UVCA) has been established in mid-2014 by the example of the European Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (InvestEurope), and currently unites 40 members - private equity and venture funds, accelerators, incubators, educational institutions, and non-government organisations that make significant impact on the development of Ukrainian investment market. Association promotes investment opportunities in Ukraine for foreign investment funds, conducts market research, lobbies laws for improving investment and business climate, implements Invest in Ukraine activity.
