Location: Zakarpattia region, within 10 km of the European Union border.

Investment format: Private Equity (equity entry into the project company).

Project stage: Ready-to-Build.

About the project

The project offered for investment is the construction of a hybrid solar power plant with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

The project combines electricity generation from renewable sources with an energy storage system, enabling optimization of electricity sales across different segments of Ukraine’s power market and generating additional income through price arbitrage.

The operating model provides revenue from:

  • electricity generation by the solar power plant;
  • electricity trading through the storage system;
  • optimization of power system imbalances.

Location and land plot

The project is located in Zakarpattia region, within 10 km of the European Union border (Slovakia).

The land plot area is 11.6 hectares, owned.

The plot is designated for the placement of energy infrastructure facilities.

Implementation status

The project is at the Ready-to-Build stage.

The key preparatory stages have been completed:

  • land plot in ownership;
  • grid connection technical conditions obtained;
  • construction commencement notice registered;
  • project company (SPV) established;
  • preliminary agreements reached with industrial consumers for direct electricity supply contracts (PPA).

Main technical parameters

Solar power plant:

  • Peak photovoltaic module capacity: 8.7 MW
  • Grid connection capacity: 7.5 MW
  • Estimated annual output: 10,688 MWh
  • Number of modules: 12,428 units (Risen RSM132-8-700BNDG)
  • Inverters: Huawei SUN2000-330KTL-H1
  • Steel structures: KNESS KM59, tilt angle 25°

Battery Energy Storage System (BESS):

  • Total capacity: 30 MWh
  • Battery type: LFP (lithium iron phosphate)
  • Number of containers: 6 × 5 MWh
  • System power: 7.5 MW
  • PCS: BCS1250K-B-HUD (Kehua Digital Energy)
  • Battery manufacturer: HiTHIUM Energy Storage
  • Design life: 8,000–11,000 cycles
  • Residual capacity warranty: at least 64.5% in year 14 of operation

Business model

The project operates on the basis of a combined revenue model using several segments of Ukraine’s electricity market:

  • day-ahead market (DAM);
  • intraday market (IDM);
  • balancing market;
  • imbalance market;
  • bilateral contracts market.

Revenue structure:

~30% — electricity generation by the solar power plant.

~70% — electricity trading through the storage system:

  • purchasing electricity during low-demand hours;
  • selling during peak-load hours;
  • imbalance settlement.

Financial model

The financial model assumes plant operation under market conditions, using the storage system to optimize revenues.

Key indicators:

  • Investor IRR (base case): ~19%;
  • Investor IRR (optimized trading model): up to 30%;
  • Discounted Payback Period for the investor: 4–5 years (priority return of invested capital from the project cash flow).

Investment and financing structure

Total project cost (CAPEX): ≈ EUR 8.7 million.

Financing structure:

  • 80% — state bank loan (preliminarily approved);
  • 20% — equity.

Investor participation format

Private investor contribution: EUR 2.2 million.

Investment format — acquisition of an equity stake in the authorized capital of the project company (SPV).

The investor receives:

  • a 35% stake in the business;
  • after repayment of the investment, proportional profit distribution among the participants;
  • access to financial and technical documentation;
  • regular reporting on project operations.
