Belgium Provides €100M in Military Aid to Ukraine

Belgium is allocating €100 million in military assistance to Ukraine under NATO’s PURL program, raising its total support to more than €1 billion

Belgium will provide an additional €100 million in military aid to Ukraine through NATO’s PURL initiative (Priority Ukraine Requirements List). The announcement was made on August 29 by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, who noted that the new funding supplements Brussels’ existing support package worth around €1 billion. According to Shmyhal, Belgium’s contribution plays a vital role in strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities. “I sincerely thank my colleague Theo Francken, as well as the government and people of Belgium, for their steadfast support of Ukraine and our fight for freedom,” he said.

The PURL initiative was launched by the United States and NATO to accelerate the delivery of American weapons and military equipment to Kyiv, with costs covered by other Alliance members. Under this framework, allies have already begun directing funds toward Ukraine’s defense procurement.

The Netherlands has announced a €500 million aid package that includes components and missiles for the Patriot air defense system. In addition, Norway pledged approximately NOK 7 billion (about $695.7 million) to further strengthen Ukraine’s air defense and protect the country’s critical infrastructure.
