EIB to Provide €50 Million to Ukrainian Railways for Border Infrastructure Development

European Investment Bank Transfers Final €50 Million to Ukrainian Railways Under 2016 Railway Modernization Loan Agreement

According to Ukraine’s Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development, the funding will support the modernization of border rail infrastructure and the development of key cross-border checkpoints, including:

  • Yahodyn – Dorohusk (border with Poland)
  • Mostyska I & II – Medyka (Poland)
  • Chop – Čierna nad Tisou/Záhony (Slovakia/Hungary)
  • Vadul-Siret – Dornești (Romania)

The financing agreement was signed by Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.

The ministry noted that the first €100 million tranche was disbursed to Ukrzaliznytsia in 2022 as part of the EIB’s emergency support package for Ukraine. That funding was used to facilitate emergency repairs and restore core rail services disrupted by Russia’s full-scale invasion.
