Ilyich Iron and Steel Works Mariupol starts USD 150mln construction

MMKI commenced construction of a two-strand concaster with capacity of 2.5 mln tons of premium segment slab per year

Metinvest group, associated with Rinat Akhmetov, will invest USD 150mln into the project. Meantime, Austrian Primetals Technolgies will supply the equipment and technology for two-strand concaster. Austrian partners will start deliveries in March 2017, voiced Robert Reisetbauer after the visit to the plant during placement of a time capsule into the foundation the site of the correspondent project. The project includes modernization of Basic Oxygen Furnace production process and production of a treatment facility. Preliminary works have already started with dismantling of buildings, relocation of utility spots, and other. A computerized process control system will allow better coordination of steel making and casting technics. The project has to be finished by end of 2018. We have a long history of cooperation with Metinvest. This time, we will jointly build an ultra modern unit with very few equivalents in the world. The latest technological solutions of this CCM will allow the enterprise to expand its product line, and become more competitive in the world market. During the following 18 months, our teams will closely cooperate to achieve the best possible result, told Robert Reisetbauer, Vice President of Primetals Technologies for Sales and Marketing in Ukraine.
