Ukrainian-founded startup Esper Bionics raises $5M to scale the bionic ecosystem

Ukrainian-founded engineering and tech startup Esper Bionics has raised $5 million, led by YZR Capital. The funding round will enable Esper Bionics to further develop and scale the bionic ecosystem.

Founded in 2019 by Dmytro Gazda, Anna Belevantseva, and Ihor Ilchenko, Esper Bionics develops advanced robotic limbs and controllers, with a focus on creating assistive devices, wearable sensors, and semi-invasive sensors that restore function and provide extra abilities.

With offices in Kyiv and New York, Esper Bionics primarily focuses on the American market while also providing modern, multifunctional hand prostheses to Ukrainians who have undergone amputations.

Alongside offering valuable information about the prosthetic process, Esper Bionics trains prosthetists to effectively work with these advanced prostheses. Since July 2022, Esper Bionics has supplied over 80 bionic hands to Ukrainian veterans, making a substantial impact on their rehabilitation and improving their overall quality of life.

YZR Capital led the investment round. YZR Capital is a Munich-based venture capital firm that supports European health tech founders. Its portfolio consists of 14 startups, including Deemea, Filu, Holi Health, and Scan.com.

The investment was also co-financed by London-based EBRD and u.ventures, a Chicago-based venture capital firm that funds early-stage technology startups with world-class teams and a global potential for growth.

The funds will help Esper Bionics with research and development, increase production, and enhance their bionic ecosystem. The startup aims to produce more of its main product, the AI-powered Esper Hand, which costs $22,000 and is covered by insurance.
