UNICEF venture fund to allocate up to USD 90 000 for start-ups in data analysis and AI

The UNICEF Innovation Fund will offer financing, technical support and interaction with mentors for the selected projects in the fields of data mining, data processing, machine learning and ...

UNICEF is ready to offer the chosen projects from USD 50 000 to USD 90 000 to solve social and environmental problems. The filling process of applications from startups will be accepted until September 30, 2017. UNICEF does not claim any equity upon the projects.

At the first place, UNICEF is interested in four areas: generation, compilation and supervision of large data sets; analysis of complex data sets; processing of satellite images; the use of artificial intelligence.

Among the basic requirements is the mandatory availability of a prototype; and the solution must generate public data in real time, which can be measured.

Teams will have an opportunity to work in a data science-group gaining support and data from the other start-ups.

The Fund will also provide access to a network of mentors that will help with the development of the business model, strategy and expansion of the start-up. If the project is aimed at improving the lives of children, the fund that specializes in working with children will help provide expertise and help establish partnerships in this area.

UNICEF Innovation Fund and Ventures worth USD 12.6mln has already made 49 investments totaling USD 2.8mln in 27 countries.
