Vodafone Ukraine to buy Vega Telecom

Vodafone Ukraine, the second-largest mobile operator in Ukraine, is all set to acquire a stake of over 50% in Farlep-Invest, which runs Vega Telecommunications

The relevant documents are already being considered by the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU).

Neither Vodafone Ukraine nor Vega made any comment on the deal.

Another report by fast.ua revealed that the AMCU has confirmed Vodafone Ukraine's intention to buy the Vega Internet operator.

The AMCU reported that VF Ukraine and Farlep-Invest first applied to the agency in early June this year. But then the package of documents did not meet the norms established by the legislation. Therefore, the AMCU denied the parties consideration of their application.

The companies later launched a new, this time successful, attempt, and the regulator accepted the documents for consideration, but as of Friday, August 13, has not made a final decision.

Vega is a sister company of Ukraine’s largest fixed-line operator Ukrtelecom and is currently wholly owned by domestic conglomerate SCM. Vega’s additional assets include fixed-wireless spectrum (potentially convertible to mobile in the future) and online TV provider Digital Screens (oll.tv).
