The first tranche of a $432 million loan from the World Bank to Ukraine, under the new “Driving Resilience through Infrastructures for Vulnerable Environments” (DRIVE) project, will be disbursed later this month, according to the press service of the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine.
The agreement was signed in Kyiv by Oleksii Kuleba, Ukraine’s Minister for Infrastructure Development, and Bob Saum, the World Bank’s Regional Country Director for Eastern Europe.
“This funding is essential for road maintenance and repairs,” said Kuleba. “In wartime, logistics save lives, and functional road infrastructure is critical to the country’s stability. That’s why we are doing everything possible to secure additional resources.”
The DRIVE project will support major road and bridge rehabilitation works across 19 regions of Ukraine, reforms to the national road network, the deployment of modular bridges, and the provision of technical assistance and project management services.
DRIVE complements the ongoing “Restoring Essential Logistics Infrastructure and Network Connectivity” (RELINC) project, which has already delivered modular road bridges and produced 200 flatbed railcars to boost freight capacity and Ukraine’s export potential via the state railway company Ukrzaliznytsia.
