EBRD to Provide €4.13 Million Grant for Superhumans Rehabilitation Centers in Dnipro and Odesa

EBRD will provide a €4.13 million grant to support and expand Superhumans rehabilitation centers in Dnipro and Odesa, improving access to free specialized care during the war

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved a €4.13 million grant to support the Superhumans rehabilitation centers in Dnipro and Odesa. The announcement was published on the financial institution’s official website.

The need for grant financing is driven by the extraordinary conditions of wartime and the acute shortage of specialized rehabilitation services in Ukraine. Due to the limited number of such facilities, patients requiring prosthetics, recovery after severe injuries, and comprehensive rehabilitation often have to travel long distances — to Lviv or even abroad. The new grant is expected to expand access to modern multidisciplinary care, particularly in the southern and eastern regions of the country.

In mid-2026, Superhumans plans to open a new medical center in Odesa. The facility will be designed to receive around 600 new patients annually and provide ongoing support and follow-up care for up to 1,200 people per year. The opening of the Odesa center will significantly strengthen the rehabilitation system in southern Ukraine and reduce the logistical burden for patients.

Superhumans is a private initiative launched by entrepreneurs Andrii Stavnitser, co-owner of TIS port, and Philipp Hrushko, partner at SD Capital. The founders invested $5.7 million of their own funds into the project and have attracted more than $50 million from approximately 30 donors. Key contributors include The Howard G. Buffett Foundation, which provided $16 million, as well as Virgin founder Richard Branson, and corporations Cargill and Mastercard. At the same time, all patients receive treatment and rehabilitation at the centers free of charge.

The first Superhumans center partially began operations in April 2023 at the Yurii Lypa Lviv Regional Hospital in Vynnyky, a suburb of Lviv. Its official opening took place in June 2024. The facility has the capacity to treat up to 2,000 patients annually.

Initially, the second center in the network was planned to be located in Odesa. The French government committed €4 million to finance its creation. The additional EBRD grant will further support the implementation of this project and the expansion of Superhumans’ activities in other regions of Ukraine.
