The Swedish agricultural holding Grain Alliance is expanding its business in Ukraine and entering a new segment of agricultural processing. The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) has issued preliminary conclusions regarding a concentration that предусматриes the acquisition of control by Baryshivska Grain Company LLC (Grain Alliance) over Organic Export LLC and Med Ukrainy LLC.
According to the regulator, the review of applications dated February 9, 2026, concerned permission for a concentration in the form of Baryshivska Grain Company acquiring control jointly with several private individuals — Ukrainian citizens whose identities were not disclosed. The transaction involves the acquisition of two companies operating in the honey production and export segment.
Baryshivska Grain Company, part of the Swedish group Grain Alliance AB, has been operating in Ukraine since 2004. The company specializes in the cultivation of grains, legumes, and oilseeds, as well as dairy farming, flour production, and grain storage services. The holding manages a land bank of around 57,000 hectares in the Kyiv, Cherkasy, Poltava, and Chernihiv regions. The ultimate beneficiary of the group is Swedish entrepreneur Johan Claesson.
Grain Alliance’s infrastructure includes six grain elevators with total storage capacity exceeding 238,000 tons, as well as additional on-farm storage facilities with capacity of 27,000 tons. At the Yahotyn grain reception facility, the company also implemented an investment project to build a flour milling complex with processing capacity of 200 tons of grain per day, oriented toward export markets in the Middle East and Asia.
The acquired companies — Organic Export LLC and Med Ukrainy LLC — operate as a unified group under the brand Organic Export & Med Ukrainy and are among the largest exporters of Ukrainian honey to the European market. The companies operate their own analytical laboratory equipped with LC-MS/MS technology to monitor antibiotic residues and use a short-term heating technology that preserves the natural enzymes in honey.
Key partners of the group include the Italian company Apicoltura Piana SpA, the German distributor Schutte Honey, and the Ukrainian company Kyivkhlib PJSC. Products are supplied to international markets both under own brands and in private label formats.
Organic Export LLC was founded in 2016. According to financial statements, the company generated UAH 192 million in revenue in 2025 and UAH 3.2 million in net profit. Med Ukrainy LLC, founded in 2013, specializes in food production and agricultural processing.
The acquisition of honey processing assets is expected to allow Grain Alliance to diversify its agricultural portfolio and strengthen its position in the high value-added food segment with stable export demand in the European Union market.
