Ukrainian Co-Founder’s Legal Tech Startup Wordsmith AI Raises $25M

Wordsmith AI, a Legal Tech startup building an AI-powered legal assistant, has secured $25 million in funding from Index Ventures and other investors

Wordsmith AI, a Legal Tech startup developing an AI-driven platform for legal departments, has raised $25 million in a Series A funding round led by Index Ventures, with participation from Scottish Enterprise. The latest investment pushes Wordsmith’s valuation beyond $100 million, positioning it among the fastest-growing tech companies emerging from Scotland’s innovation ecosystem. The startup is headquartered in Edinburgh.

Ross McNairn, CEO and co-founder of Wordsmith, describes the company’s Legal Enablement platform as an "air traffic control system" for general counsels and in-house legal teams, enabling them to make better decisions, faster.

The startup's growing client base includes prominent companies such as Trustpilot, Remote.com, Deliveroo, Multiverse, and Docplanner. To support continued expansion, Wordsmith plans to open new offices in London and New York later this year.

Wordsmith is also pioneering a new professional role within legal departments — the “legal engineer.” Unlike traditional legal operations positions, legal engineers focus on training, deploying, and managing fleets of AI agents.

Founded in October 2023, Wordsmith was launched by Ross McNairn (CEO), Robbie Falkenthal (COO), and Ukrainian-born Volodymyr Hyhyniak (CTO).
