The sources reported that JSC "Ukrposhta" reached an agreement on the purchase of the bank JSC "Alpari Bank". According to them, approval is expected from the National Bank, and Ukrposhta is preparing a package of documents for this.
Ukrposhta has long announced its intentions to acquire the bank. As soon as Igor Smelyansky took over as CEO of the company, he announced plans to develop e-commerce and financial services through a postal bank. He noted that about 12-14 million Ukrainians live in villages or cities where there are no bank branches. Most of the branches of "Ukrposhta" are located in the same cities.
The state-owned company calculated that by introduction of banking services, Ukrposhta's income could be doubled, up to UAH 16 million.
Postal accounts can be used to enroll pensions, salaries, social assistance from the state and income from trade. In addition, "Ukrposhta" will be able to carry out settlement banking operations, exchange currency and issue payment cards.
