General description of the business
For the establishment of a walnut orchard, a land plot was chosen, which was used for gardening during the Soviet era, a vineyard was located there, and after its uprooting, grain crops were grown.
A project for laying a walnut garden was ordered in the Institute of Horticulture of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
For laying the garden, promising varieties of walnut of Ukrainian selection were used, which were purchased in an official nursery, included in the list of producers of planting material. In fact, on this site, in accordance with the developed scheme, 4 varieties were planted in the amount of 1,100 pieces: Chernivitsky 1, Chernivisky 2, Klishkovsky and Yarovsky.
Along with the planting material, the seed-plot provided all the necessary documents, including certificates of varietal conformity and commercial quality, certifying the quality of the planted trees.
Location
The specified land plot is located within the administrative boundaries of Muzychi village, Kiyiv-Sviatoshynskyi district, Kyiv region. It has a convenient location, namely 2 asphalt entrances and 1 unsurfaced road. The distance from Kyiv is 25 km, and 13 km from the exit to the international highway Kyiv-Chop.
Characteristics and infrastructure of the site
The site has a slope of 3% southeastern exposure, separated from three sides by natural windbreak strips.
The area of land plots is 10 hectares, taking into account the access roads – 12 hectares, fenced with a 1.7 m high fencing. For the fence, concrete posts were used on which barbed wire was mounted, and video surveillance cameras were installed along the perimeter.
Currently, a box van for security is located on the territory, a room for storing inventory and security is being built, a place is being set up for the development of an artificial reservoir, with an approximate volume of water of more than 300 m3, which will be more than enough for irrigating the garden, a well to provide water supply, as well as at this stage, electricity is supplied to the territory (15 kW).
The garden is taken care of by the specialists of the Yaroslavsad garden center of walnut crops and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
The economic efficiency of the walnut plantation
The economic efficiency of the planting is calculated according to the design yield, subject to the use of intensive cultivation technologies, which are established on the basis of the recommendations of research institutions of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine.
Design yield
When calculating the design yield, the project took into account the factors that determine the productivity of plantings, the specific conditions of the site and the biological characteristics of the varieties planted. Average yield – 3.3 thousand kg / ha (these figures are adapted to our conditions). The percentage of pure walnuts, after peeling, is on average about 40%.
