The Avakov family, through the fund JSC CLOSED NON-DIVERSIFIED VENTURE CORPORATE INVESTMENT FUND FORESIGHT INVEST, owns one of the largest hazelnut orchards with an area of 900 hectares (Karpaty Zolotye LLC).
Arsen Avakov, his wife Inna Avakova and business partner Igor Kotvitsky officially became the owners of Carpathian Golden Nuts LLC in 2023, although the company had previously been associated with Avakov’s Investor group.
Hazelnuts, or hazelnuts, are one of the most popular nuts among Ukrainian gardeners.
The idea of growing nuts became popular among businessmen in Ukraine (not only agricultural ones) 15 years ago. The driver of interest was the high prices for nuts; at that time, almost all of them were imported in Ukraine.
In 2023, approximately 2,300 hectares of new orchards were established in Ukraine, more than half of which are walnut and cherry plantations. Among walnut orchards, 80% are hazel plantations.
This nut begins to “work” after three years. After this, yields grow multiple times: from 600 kg/ha in the sixth year to 1200 kg/ha in the seventh year and then to almost 3 tons/ha.
