Ukrainian grocery retail chain Varus has secured a $25 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to support the expansion of its national supermarket network.
According to the company, the total budget for the project is $53.1 million. In addition to the loan, the Japan-EBRD Cooperation Fund (JECF) will provide a €500,000 grant aimed at promoting accessible employment opportunities, along with another €75,000 to cover legal expenses.
Further support includes €125,000 from the EBRD’s Action for Equality and Gender (A4EG) fund and €75,000 from the EBRD Shareholders Special Fund.
Varus, owned by Omega LLC, is a national supermarket chain in Ukraine. Established in 2003 in Dnipro, the company now operates 113 stores across the country, including a DarkStore in Kyiv. The retailer offers several formats, including traditional supermarkets, To Go convenience stores, and an online shopping platform.
According to Opendatabot, Omega LLC is owned by Cyprus-based Weigant Enterprises Limited, with Valerii Kiptik and Ruslan Shostak listed as the ultimate beneficial owners.
