Glencore Group received permission from AMCU to purchase assets previously owned by the Russian holding company RUSAL, among which there is Mykolaiv Alumina Refinery

As reported by the press service of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU), the regulator allowed the Glencore Group to acquire stakes in the authorized capital of LLC Aluminum of Ukraine (Kyiv), Guardon Ukraine (Kyivv), Mykolaiv Alumina Plant (MAP) and Okhrany of NAP" (both located in the village of Galicinovo, Mykolaiv region).

The committee did not find a significant impact on competition or monopolization in the Ukrainian commodity markets from the move. Sanctions of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine also do not apply to the above-mentioned participants.

The former owner of these assets was the Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska through his Caribbean offshore company Gandela International. Deripaska is also the president of the RUSAL holding that hubs aluminum assets in Russia.

Earlier, along with Zaporozhia Aluminum Combine (ZALC), all of the above-mentioned assets were part of the RUSAL holding. At this, the owner of ZALK became the Russian group SUAL back in 2004.

In 2007, a merger RUSAL was created which included aluminum and alumina assets of PJSC RusAl, SUAL and the Swiss trader Glencore.

In 2016, RUSAL was included into the sanction list in Ukraine restricting the right to use property in Ukraine, limiting trading activities in the territory of Ukraine, and also prohibiting withdrawal of capital from Ukraine.
