How much investment and time is needed to build a new hydroelectric power station in Ukraine?

It will take at least five years to build a new hydroelectric power plant on the site of the destroyed Kakhovka HPP

It takes at least 5 years of work in 24/7 mode to build a new hydroelectric power station. It will also require a minimum funding of about $1 billion.

“The full extent of the destruction is not yet known: not only the station was damaged, but also crossings, water supply, gas supply. This is a complex hydroelectric complex, the restructuring of which takes time. Now we are developing a project for placing the station,” said Ihor Syrota, Director General of Ukrhydroenergo.

The director of Ukrhydroenergo noted that water will be accumulated in the upper reservoirs in order to fill the Kakhovka reservoir as soon as possible after de-occupation.

On June 6, 2023, at about 2.30 am, the Russian invaders blew up the dam of the Kakhovka reservoir.
