Telecommunications lifecell mulls over purchasing cable TV Volia

TV Volia can get new owners by the end of the year, according to Liga.net

Turkish telecommunications lifecell in Ukraine filed for information about optic fiber assets of TV Volia. It reflects the interest of lifecell to take over TV provider Volia in order to develop 4G and 5G telecommunications technologies benefiting the available assets of cable TV Volia, according to Liga.net.

Earlier, the CEO of lifecell Ismet Yazici voiced in his interview to Delo that the company plans not only to develop mobile communications business but also add fixed line services too. That’s why the company was eyeing some providers of such services for the takeover.

Providence Equity Partners, the shareholder of Volia, decided to sell its stake in the company before the end of the year. Other shareholders also wish to exits cable TV Volia.

The founder of BigDataUa and former head of cable TV Volia, Sergey Boyko, commented that there is a practice in the world of combining mobile communications with fixed line services. If Ukraine was Germany or Poland, such giants as Kyivstar, let alone lifecell, would have long ago took over cable TV provider Volia. But business environment in Ukraine normally differs from other countries.

Last year, only Ukrtelecom and Kyivstar had more subscribers than cable TV provider Volia.
