Ukraine to receive a CEF grant of EUR53 million for the implementation of 4 transport infrastructure projects

In accordance with the European Union's Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program, four projects on transport infrastructure development submitted by the Ukrainian side have been agreed upon

The EU grant will total approximately 53 million euros, it said. The CEF program will provide a 50% co-financing for implementing the projects, the same amount should be provided by the Ukrainian side.

"All projects are primarily aimed at European integration. They physically bring Ukraine closer to the EU, expand the capacity of transport corridors, movement of goods and services, make it possible to accelerate the Ukrainian transport infrastructure integration into the EU transport space," the press service quoted Deputy Minister of Restoration Sergei Derkach as saying.

The integration of the Ukrainian railway system into the EU transport system is among the projects that have been approved. The first stage involves improvement of the railroad network and development of the 1,435mm track to ensure technological compatibility and increase the capacity of the railway infrastructure.

Another project envisions the organization of traffic flows in order to increase the capacity of infrastructure, safety and efficiency of border crossing services along the common Romania - Moldova - Ukraine road across the Galati - Giurgiulesti - Reni checkpoints. It was developed and presented jointly with Moldovan and Romanian partners. The implementation of the project will ensure the continuous traffic between the mentioned checkpoints.

In addition, the project for establishing and implementing a river information service (RIS) on the Ukrainian part of the Danube river was approved, including its integration into the European River Information Services (EuRIS) System and the Central and Eastern European Reporting Information System (CEERIS) of the RIS COMEX project (provides RIS development from safety management to facilitating logistics services to make inland waterways easy to use and reliable in multimodal supply chains).

The fourth project stipulates the rehabilitation of Ukraine's air navigation industry and further upgrades of communication, navigation, surveillance and air navigation information infrastructure.

The relevant decision under the CEF program was adopted at the meeting of the CEF Coordination Committee on July 16.
