Ukraine to Receive SEK 1bn from Sweden for Energy Sector Recovery

Sweden is allocating SEK 1bn to Ukraine to restore and strengthen the country’s energy system

The Swedish government has announced a new SEK 1bn aid package for Ukraine aimed at the recovery and reinforcement of the energy system. According to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, the funds will be used to address the most urgent needs for energy equipment and to enhance the resilience of the power system in the medium and long term.

Of the total amount, SEK 600m will be channelled through the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, while the remaining SEK 400m will be provided via the United Nations Development Programme. Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal specified that the funds will be used to procure generators, heat pumps, critical spare parts, and other equipment required to restore infrastructure and ensure the stable operation of the country’s energy system.

The Swedish assistance is therefore aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s energy security and restoring key energy infrastructure facilities damaged by hostilities, with a focus on the long-term resilience and reliability of energy supply.
