"The decision was made to build dozens of gas generator sets with a total capacity of up to 250 MW. Ukrzaliznytsia is currently conducting negotiations with suppliers and international finance organizations to ensure the prompt implementation of this project," the press service quoted UZ CEO Yevgeny Lyashchenko as saying.
"Ukrzaliznytsia will own 100% of UZ Energo via LLC Sbyt Energy LTD, also owned by Ukrzaliznytsia," the press service said.
As one of the key energy consumers in Ukraine, UZ is experiencing a considerable supply shortage, it said. The applied electricity consumption limits meet only 75% of the company's actual needs.
Upon the approach of fall-winter, the increase of the electricity shortage could affect the uninterrupted train traffic, UZ said.
Gas-fired power plants will be built in regional centers in the first place and linked to the UZ power grids which supply electricity to railway facilities, social infrastructure, and critical infrastructure facilities of other sectors of the economy.
