Ukrnafta to Invest in 100 Fuel Tankers to Strengthen In-House Logistics

Ukrnafta plans to acquire 100 modern fuel tankers to expand its in-house logistics capabilities, reduce dependence on third-party carriers and improve the reliability of fuel deliveries across Ukraine

PJSC Ukrnafta is expanding its fleet of specialized vehicles and plans to acquire 100 modern fuel tankers to improve the resilience of fuel deliveries to filling stations across Ukraine. The company aims to reduce its dependence on external logistics contractors and strengthen control over a key stage of the fuel supply chain.

According to Ukrnafta, the investment in new vehicles will be implemented through two financing channels. The company will acquire 33 fuel tankers through financial leasing, while another 67 vehicles will be purchased using its own funds. Ukrnafta has not disclosed the total amount of investment in the expansion of its vehicle fleet.

The first five newly branded fuel tankers are expected to begin operating on Ukrainian roads in the near future. Subsequent deliveries of the remaining vehicles will allow the company to gradually increase the share of transportation handled by its own fleet.

Bohdan Kukura, Chairman of the Management Board of Ukrnafta, said that under current conditions, the reliability of an energy company depends not only on the availability of petroleum products but also on its ability to deliver fuel to consumers quickly and in the required volumes.

According to him, the development of in-house logistics infrastructure is a strategic investment in business resilience. The company’s own vehicle fleet will enable Ukrnafta to respond more quickly to changes in demand, manage costs more efficiently, improve delivery speed and reduce its dependence on third-party carriers.

The UKRNAFTA filling station network is currently served by around 400 fuel tankers. However, most transportation is provided by external logistics partners, while the company’s own vehicles cover approximately 10% of the network’s requirements. Following completion of the procurement program, the share of in-house transportation is expected to increase significantly.

The expansion of the transport fleet is part of Ukrnafta’s broader transformation since the company came under state management in 2022. Ukrnafta aims to improve operational efficiency, strengthen Ukraine’s energy independence and ensure stable fuel supplies to its own filling station network.

PJSC Ukrnafta is Ukraine’s largest oil producer and operates across the full oil and gas value chain, from exploration and production of oil and gas to the provision of oilfield services. The company has more than 1,106 oil wells and 131 gas wells on its balance sheet.

The company’s shareholders are Naftogaz of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine. Since coming under state management, Ukrnafta has been implementing a comprehensive modernization program covering the development of production capacity, infrastructure upgrades and the expansion of its petroleum products retail network.

UKRNAFTA is the largest filling station network in Ukraine, with nearly 700 locations, and ranks among the country’s three largest fuel retailers by sales volumes. The network also includes filling stations that previously operated under the Glusco, Shell and U.Go brands.
