US Holtec International to set up production of containers for storage of spent nuclear fuel in Ukraine

The US company is motivated to produce containers for nuclear and non-nuclear power plants

The US Holtec International reported that it views Ukraine as a promising center for manufacturing systems, structures and components for nuclear and non-nuclear power plants in Ukraine and abroad.

Holtec is determined to set up the specialized production capacities in Ukraine to be used not only for domestic needs of Ukraine, but also serve as a platform for making exports to the European market.

The construction of a nuclear fuel storage facility for nuclear power plants and the establishment of container production would be an opportunity for Holtec to gain a foothold in the European market, told Dr. Kris Singh the Founder, President and CEO of Holtec International back in 2006.

11 years later, Holtec International approved its intention to extend its business operations in Ukraine. In particular, the company recently negotiated the production of large components and systems for SMR-160 small modular reactor with the Ukrainian government.
