Italian Eni S.p.A mulls construction of wind farm in Ukraine

The company considers opportunities in Southern or Western regions of the country

The representatives of Italian Eni S.p.A met with State Agency of Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine in order to discuss a 40MW wind farm project by the Italian investor company. The project has a couple of phases to be carried out, told Luigi Barberis the CEO of Eni S.p.A.

During the preparation stage, the company will consider access to the power grit along with wind power potential and the arrangements of financing to stand.

The latest legislative changes contribute to planning and launching of wind power generating projects, told Sergiy Savchuk the head of domestic regulatory agency. In particular, it concerns benefits of protective ‘green tariffs’ pegged to the exchange rates of the euro currency, premiums on introduction of domestically produced equipment and the possibility  to enter into the long-term contracts on green energy supplies.

Following the negotiations, the State Agency of Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine committed itself to provide information on the available wind power generating projects and the related current legislation related to the doing business in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian party invited Eni S.p.A to participate in the coming European-Ukrainian forum on the renewable energy planned to be organized in cooperation with the European Commission.

To remind, Eni S.p.A registered its subsidiary Eni Ukraine LLC back in 2011. In 2012, Eni Ukraine LLC acquired 50,01% shares of Zakhidgasinvest LLC from Lviv. In its turn, Zakhidgasinvest LLC holds 9 exploration licenses for shale gas development in Western Ukraine over 3,800 sq.km area. Notably, the Italian Eni has Eni Ukraine Deep Waters BV, Eni Ukraine Shallow Waters BV registered in the Netherlands along with Eni Ukraine registered in Kyiv in order to run energy related projects in Ukraine.
