Vitagro to Invest Around €13M in Construction of Biomethane Plants

Vitagro Group plans to build two biomethane production facilities over the next 18 months, each valued at €6–6.5 million.

Vitagro Group has announced plans to construct two additional biomethane production plants. One of the new facilities is expected to produce 3 million cubic meters of biomethane annually, while the second is projected to reach 5 million cubic meters. The investment per plant is estimated at €6–6.5 million.

Regarding exports from its first biomethane facility, the company stated that after a test batch in February, the entire production volume is now being sold at market prices to countries including Germany and the United Kingdom. No further details were disclosed.

Vitagro also indicated that it may partner with Ukrainian banks to support the expansion of its biomethane production capacity.

In February 2025, Vitagro outlined its ambition to reach the design capacity of 3 million cubic meters at its first biomethane plant within the year, with plans to build two more facilities in Khmelnytskyi and Rivne regions if export operations prove successful. At the time, the company also mentioned the potential involvement of foreign investors.

Vitagro expected a five-year payback period for its initial €6 million biomethane plant investment, with a shorter horizon possible under favorable market conditions. The production cost of biomethane exceeds €500 per 1,000 cubic meters, while the average export price to European markets reaches approximately €900 per 1,000 cubic meters, according to Georgii Geletukha, Head of the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine.
