Auchan Retail Ukraine purchases network of Karavan shopping centers

Auchan Retail completed the process of acquisition of Karavan, after Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine issued permission for the move on September 5.

Auchan Retail completed the buyout project of Karavan network of shopping centers thanks to the September 5, 2017 permission by ACU, according to the press service of Auchan Ukraine. To remind, the parties agreed to strike a deal on June 20, 2017.

Auchan plans to gradually introduce their commercial projects and develop other areas in the former Karavan stores as part of their new development concept.

Auchan operates in 16 countries. The Auchan Group is run by French Association Familiale Mulliez (AFM).  In Ukraine, Auchan has 11 hypermarket facilities over 5 regions.

In its turn, the network of Karavan shopping centers consists of 9 stores, which are located in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Chernivtsi, and Zhytomyr.

The Karavan network was started by businessmen Sergey Khripkov and Andrey Gordienko in 2003. In 2013, Alexander Yaroslavsky and his DCH Group got a stake of the SEC Karavan Real Estate Limited and later becoming a major shareholder in 2016. To note, earlier mr. Alexander Yaroslavkiy sold his Ukrsibbank to another French investor in Ukraine, that is BNP Paribas.
