Czech Colt CZ group to start producing ammunition and assault rifles in Ukraine

Ukraine and the Czech Republic signed agreements on joint production of assault rifles and ammunition.

Czech company Colt CZ will begin manufacturing ammunition and assault rifles in Ukraine, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced during a briefing in Prague after meeting with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala.

"A new ammunition factory will be built in Ukraine. The agreement has been signed between Sellier & Bellot and Ukroboronservise. This is important for supplying our army now and demonstrates a high level of interest in cooperation with our defense industry. The second agreement is for the production of Colt CZ assault rifles in Ukraine," Shmyhal said.

In February 2024, the state-owned holding Ukrainian Defense Industry (UDI) and Česká zbrojovka a.s. signed an agreement of intent to transfer the license for the production of CZ BREN 2 semi-automatic assault rifles in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian army already uses the CZ BREN 2, and the rifle is also in service with the armies of the Czech Republic, Portugal, the French National Gendarmerie's operational group, the Polish Border Service, and the Romanian Gendarmerie.

Both companies – Česká zbrojovka and Sellier & Bellot – are part of the Colt CZ group.
