Germany plans to increase aid to Ukraine by €3 billion in 2026

Germany intends to boost financial assistance to Ukraine by approximately €3 billion in 2026

According to the preliminary draft of the federal budget, €8.5 billion has already been allocated to support Ukraine in 2026, including military aid, arms supplies, training for Ukrainian soldiers, and funding for humanitarian programs. An additional €3 billion is expected to be directed toward strengthening defense support, restoring critical infrastructure, and assisting the civilian sector — particularly in energy, transport, and healthcare.

A source told Reuters that the proposal to increase allocations will be discussed during the final parliamentary budget hearings scheduled for next week, when the government will be able to make final adjustments to the 2026 financial plan.

Germany’s Ministry of Defense is expected to propose expanding the military aid program to Ukraine, including the supply of air defense systems, ammunition, and communication equipment, as well as continuing the training of Ukrainian troops at German military facilities.

The source emphasized that Chancellor Friedrich Merz supports the initiative, calling it essential for strengthening European security and maintaining Germany’s long-term strategic support for Ukraine.

“Germany will continue to stand with Ukraine in its fight for freedom and sovereignty,” a government spokesperson said, adding that Berlin expects close coordination with its EU and NATO partners.

Once the budget is approved, Germany’s total support for Ukraine in 2026 is expected to reach approximately €11.5 billion, making the country one of Kyiv’s largest donors in Europe.
