OPIC to provide USD 250mln for construction of spent-fuel storage in Ukraine

National Nuclear Energy Generating Company of Ukraine Energoatom will take the loan

The Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) will carry a meeting on September 14 where USD 250mln facility for Ukrainian Enegoatom has to be decided. The project of construction of spent-fuel storage got the inspection approvals at the start of June, and the construction license Energoatom received in July. The first phase of construction will last 30months. Earlier in 2015, Energoatom planned to attract the facility from Bank of America Merril Lynch, under 7% yearly rate and maturity for 25 years. Back in 2005, the US Holtec International won tender of Energoatom for the works on construction of the spent-fuel storage facility. To remind, Holtec International plans to set up its production facilities in Ukraine for making containers for nuclear and non-nuclear power plants.
