Ukrtelecom has already invested over one billion hryvnias in developing telecommunications over the two years of the full-scale war and intends to boost its investments by another billion in 2024.

Ukrtelecom continues to develop a modern telecoms infrastructure, understanding its importance even in times of war. In 2022-2023, Ukrtelecom invested over one billion hryvnias of its own money in developing and modernising the telecommunication network and its IT infrastructure.

The key areas for investments include improving the transport infrastructure and the network core to expand their carrying capacity, flexibility and protection against hostile strikes; modernization of the copper infrastructure by replacing it with a modern optic one; and building new optic networks to access modern telecommunications services. About 11 thousand kilometres of fibre optic cables were laid in two years of the full-scale war. Significant capital investments were also required to purchase additional equipment for autonomous power supply to ensure that users are uninterruptedly provided with non-volatile Internet services.

Investments in cyber-security are a mandatory and important expenditure item to support the resilience and protection of Intercom’s infrastructure, both the IT landscape and the technological infrastructure.

New areas for capital investments emerged during the full-scale war from the need to restore communication centres and line infrastructure destroyed by the enemy.

Ukrtelecom continues to build new optical networks and modernize copper infrastructure. It is expected that the construction of new fibre optic lines will increase by 55% this year compared to previous periods. It is envisaged that 8,300 kilometres of optical networks will be laid enabling ever more companies and individual Ukrainians to use modern telecommunications services.

In 2024, Ukrtelecom intends to invest one billion hryvnias in total.
