Polish Grupa Mosty plans to implement a large-scale wind power project in Ukraine’s Odesa region with a total installed capacity of 900 MW. If completed according to the announced specifications, the Pivdennodnistrovska Wind Farm would become one of the largest wind farms in Ukraine and significantly exceed the capacity of existing and currently planned projects in the country.
The construction plans were disclosed on 20 August by Mosty Odesa 2, a company owned by Polish businessman Andrzej Kowalik, through Ukraine’s Unified State Register for Environmental Impact Assessment. The project has been named the Pivdennodnistrovska Wind Farm.
According to the submitted documentation, the wind farm will comprise between 130 and 150 wind turbines with heights of up to 140 metres. Each turbine will have a capacity of between 6.2 MW and 8 MW, providing approximately 900 MW of total installed capacity.
Once fully operational, the wind farm is expected to generate approximately 3.15 TWh of electricity annually. This level of generation would make the project a significant source of electricity for Ukraine’s power system and add substantial renewable generation capacity.
For comparison, DTEK Group is developing the Tyligulska Wind Farm in Mykolaiv region with a design capacity of 500 MW. The company is also designing the 650 MW Poltava Wind Farm near Hlobyne. The announced capacity of the Pivdennodnistrovska project would therefore exceed the larger of these projects by 250 MW.
Development of the Pivdennodnistrovska Wind Farm will require significant supporting energy infrastructure. The project provides for the construction of approximately 290 km of underground cable lines to transmit electricity from the wind turbines.
In addition, around 79 km of 110 kV overhead power transmission lines are planned. The project includes the construction of 12 substations with a voltage level of 110/35 kV to collect the generated power, which will subsequently be transmitted to a planned 330/110 kV substation.
The total area associated with the wind farm infrastructure will amount to approximately 93 hectares. Around 63 hectares will be allocated directly to wind turbine sites, another 10 hectares to the 330/110 kV substation facilities, and approximately 20 hectares to sites for overhead transmission line towers.
The project is planned for the Odesa and Rozdilna districts of Odesa region, outside the settlements of the Biliaivka, Vyhoda and Lymanske territorial communities.
For Ukraine, the development of large-scale wind power projects is strategically important amid a shortage of generation capacity and the need to restore the country’s energy infrastructure. Wind power allows the generation mix to be diversified and dependence on conventional energy sources to be reduced, while creating new capacity that can be distributed across different regions.
At the same time, the announced 900 MW capacity remains a project target. Before construction can begin, the project must complete all procedures required by Ukrainian legislation, including an environmental impact assessment, obtaining the necessary permits and resolving grid connection issues.
Grupa Mosty is a Polish group with a historical specialisation in infrastructure construction. Its origins date back to a bridge-building division that operated in central Poland from 1962, while the group has operated as an independent structure since 1992, when Warszawskie Przedsiębiorstwo Mostowe Mosty Budownictwo sp. z o.o. was established.
In the early 2010s, the group began diversifying into renewable energy. Grupa Mosty commissioned its first wind farm in 2011 and its first solar power plants in 2019. Since 2024, the group has also been engaged in electricity trading through its subsidiary Mosty Obrót.
Today, Grupa Mosty operates in two main business areas — renewable energy and infrastructure construction. The total installed capacity of renewable energy projects completed by the group exceeds 80 MW. Around 58 MW is currently in operation in Poland, including approximately 44 MW of wind generation and 19.5 MW of solar generation.
The company also plans to equip its existing energy assets with battery energy storage systems. In addition to Poland, Grupa Mosty operates in Georgia.
