As businessman Rinat Akhmetov said in an interview with the Italian TV channel RAI, after a large-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the Azovstal plants, the Mariupol Metallurgical Plant named after. As for the pre-war capitalization of the assets of Rinat Akhmetov's SCM group, which are currently destroyed, damaged or mothballed due to Russia's military aggression, it exceeded $20 billion. SCM's asset portfolio includes Metinvest, DTEK, PUMB, Ukrtelecom, UMG Investments, Media Group Ukraine , Lemtrans, ESTA, HarvEast, ASKA and other companies. Rinat Akhmetov said that SCM will certainly file claims against the Russian Federation demanding compensation for all losses caused as a result of Russian military aggression.

He also stressed that Mariupol can only be restored under Ukrainian control, and no SCM business will ever operate under Russian control.

In turn, Denis Pushilin, a protege of the occupation authorities of Russia in the Donetsk region, said that they plan to demolish the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, and organize a green zone or technopark in its place, and the Ilyich Mariupol Iron and Steel Works will be restored.
