EDL Glass has launched a new insulated glass unit manufacturing plant in Svaliava, Zakarpattia region, western Ukraine. Total investment in the facility amounted to UAH 1.5 billion. The plant is located within the Energy Group Industrial Park and will serve both the domestic Ukrainian market and export markets in the European Union.
The plant's designed production capacity is 300,000 sq. m of insulated glass units per year. Approximately half of its output will be exported to EU markets. The production facility is equipped with two glass tempering furnaces, which use thermal treatment to improve the glass's mechanical strength and resistance to temperature fluctuations.
EDL Glass is also developing laminated glass production, known as triplex glass. This technology involves using a specialized polymer interlayer that holds glass fragments together in the event of breakage, improving the safety of the finished product.
The plant currently employs 320 people, including 200 directly involved in production. Starting in 2027, the company plans to introduce an additional third shift. To develop a pipeline of skilled workers, EDL Glass is establishing partnerships with local vocational education institutions.
Local infrastructure and government support are also contributing to the facility's development. The Svaliava authorities have introduced a preferential land tax rate for the company. More than 10,000 sq. m of production and auxiliary facilities have already been commissioned within the Energy Group Industrial Park.
The industrial park is expected to expand further, with plans to develop infrastructure for glass processing companies, manufacturers of windows and building structures, and related industries. The launch of EDL Glass strengthens Zakarpattia's industrial capacity, creates jobs, and expands export opportunities for the Ukrainian manufacturer.
