IBRD Allocates $190 Million to Support Ukraine’s Road Rehabilitation

Ukraine receives $190 million under the DRIVE program, a joint reconstruction initiative with the World Bank

Ukraine has secured a $190 million loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) under the ADVANCE Ukraine initiative — a dedicated financing facility supported by the Government of Japan.

The funding will be directed toward the modernization of transport infrastructure, including road and bridge rehabilitation, systemic improvements to the national transportation network, and broader development of the road sector.

The DRIVE project aims to preserve Ukraine’s national road network through the design, execution, and supervision of civil works — including major road and bridge repairs on priority corridors. The program also includes structural reforms in the national road and road transport sector, routine maintenance of key highways, and the provision of technical assistance and project management support.

According to Ukraine’s Minister of Finance, Sergii Marchenko, the funding will help stabilize the state budget and ensure continued operation of critical transport infrastructure. The project is expected to enhance the resilience of Ukraine’s road network — a crucial element of post-war economic recovery and safe mobility in regions affected by hostilities.
