In March 2026, Ukraine returned to state ownership 9.5 hectares of forest land located along the Dnipro River in the Kyiv region, which had previously been controlled by entities linked to former Member of Parliament Viktor Medvedchuk and former Minister of Revenues and Duties under Viktor Yanukovych, Oleksandr Klymenko.

The land plots are located within the Tsyblivska community of Boryspil district. For many years, they were used by private companies, and according to public registries, the ultimate beneficiary of one of them was Oksana Marchenko, Medvedchuk’s wife.
According to the прокуратура, in 2004 the Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi District State Administration transferred these lands into private ownership and use in excess of its authority. The plots were classified as forest land, which could not be privatized or allocated for development without specific state decisions.
Prosecutors proved in court that the transfer of the land was illegal. The Commercial Court of the Kyiv region satisfied the claim, and in February 2024 the appellate court upheld the decision, declaring the lease and sublease agreements invalid.
In March 2026, a state registrar executed the court ruling: private ownership rights to the land plots were terminated in the State Register of Property Rights, and ownership was registered in favor of the state.
According to law enforcement estimates, the value of the land may exceed UAH 200 million (over $5 million).
This is not the first case of the state recovering assets linked to the Medvedchuk family. Earlier in 2026, prosecutors also secured the return of 24 hectares of forest land in the Obukhiv district of the Kyiv region, which had been unlawfully removed from state ownership in 2004.
The return of the land forms part of a broader effort by Ukrainian law enforcement authorities to recover assets unlawfully transferred in previous years and to dismantle schemes involving the misuse of natural resources for private interests.
