Ukraine's W Group, Behind WhiteBIT Crypto Exchange, Commits $400 Million to US Startup SignSplit

Ukrainian W Group, which operates the WhiteBIT cryptocurrency exchange, is investing $400 million in AI startup SignSplit: deal details and a $1 billion valuation

Volodymyr Nosov's W Group has become the sole investor in US-based AI startup SignSplit, securing a 40% equity stake and a seat on its board of directors. The $400 million investment will be disbursed in tranches tied to the startup's achievement of agreed milestones.

W Group, an international fintech and technology ecosystem founded by Ukrainian entrepreneur Volodymyr Nosov, has announced a $400 million investment in US-based startup SignSplit, which is developing infrastructure for protecting, licensing, and commercially utilizing data in artificial intelligence.

The deal was announced on October 6, 2026. It involves seed-stage financing, an unusually large amount for a startup with a small team and a product still under development.

W Group was the sole investor in the funding round. Under the terms of the transaction, it acquired a 40% equity stake in SignSplit and secured a seat on the company's board of directors. The investment values SignSplit at $1 billion on a post-money basis.

W Group founder Volodymyr Nosov discussed the investment structure, funding arrangements, and the group's strategic objectives in an interview with Forbes Ukraine.

How W Group's $400 Million Investment Is Structured

Despite the announced size of the transaction, SignSplit will not receive the entire investment amount in a single payment.

According to Volodymyr Nosov, the $400 million will be disbursed to the startup in separate tranches, conditional on achieving previously agreed development milestones and performance targets.

The parties have not disclosed the specific disbursement schedule or the conditions governing subsequent tranches, citing commercial confidentiality.

Therefore, the announced $400 million represents the total investment commitment rather than the confirmed amount of capital already received by the startup.

The agreement also establishes a multiyear strategic partnership between the companies. In addition to financing, W Group will provide SignSplit with access to the resources of its international technology ecosystem.

Operational management of SignSplit will remain with the startup's founders. W Group will participate in strategic decision-making through its representation on the board of directors.

How SignSplit Plans to Use the Investment

According to W Group's founder, the financing will primarily support the development of SignSplit's technology platform and prepare the company for international expansion.

The main areas of investment include:

  • Expanding the team and recruiting engineering talent.

  • Developing the platform's technological infrastructure.

  • Strengthening information security and data protection systems.

  • Ensuring regulatory compliance.

  • Preparing the product for entry into the global market.

The milestone-based funding mechanism will allow the investor to link subsequent capital disbursements to SignSplit's actual development progress.

What Does SignSplit Do?

SignSplit is developing infrastructure for the so-called signed-data economy, designed to establish transparent rules for the use of human-related data in artificial intelligence systems.

The platform will enable individuals and organizations to verify data provenance, establish usage rights, grant appropriate permissions, and receive compensation for the commercial use of their contributions.

This applies not only to personal information but also to intellectual and creative works, images, voices, digital likenesses, professional expertise, and other data that may be used to train or operate AI systems.

The technology's potential users include AI developers, robotics companies, research organizations, media businesses, and other industries that work with data associated with real individuals.

SignSplit's business model envisions a technological environment in which data owners can determine the terms of use of their information, while companies can access verified and properly licensed data.

Why Was an Early-Stage Startup Valued at $1 Billion?

One of the most unusual aspects of the transaction is its scale. SignSplit secured a $400 million investment commitment at the seed stage despite having a small team and a limited public operating track record.

In his interview with Forbes Ukraine, Volodymyr Nosov explained that W Group's investment decision was primarily based on the technology's long-term potential rather than the company's current market recognition or operational scale.

W Group's investment thesis is based on the expectation that continued growth in artificial intelligence will drive increasing demand for verified data with clearly established usage rights.

Technologies providing this infrastructure could potentially become an important component of the future AI market.

At the same time, the investment remains highly risky given SignSplit's early stage of development. The company's $1 billion valuation reflects the transaction terms agreed between the investor and the startup rather than a market-validated valuation of an established, profitable business.

What Is Known About SignSplit's Founders?

SignSplit was founded in 2024 by Ukrainian entrepreneur Hlib Denysov and Italian entrepreneur Alessandro Monterosso.

The company is incorporated in Delaware, United States, as a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC), a corporate structure that combines commercial activities with defined public-benefit objectives.

Alessandro Monterosso serves as Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He has experience in entrepreneurship and investment across the digital health and artificial intelligence sectors.

Hlib Denysov is Co-founder, Executive Chairman, and Chief Product Officer.

The company positions its platform as infrastructure designed to facilitate interactions between data owners and organizations that use such data in technology products.

W Group Expands Its Investments Beyond the Cryptocurrency Business

W Group is an international fintech and technology ecosystem founded by Volodymyr Nosov in 2018.

Its best-known asset is the WhiteBIT cryptocurrency exchange. The ecosystem also includes payment, blockchain, and other technology products, including Whitepay, Whitechain, and white.market.

According to the company, W Group comprises 11 businesses, employs more than 1,500 people across 15 offices, and serves over 40 million customers in 150 countries.

The investment in SignSplit expands W Group's presence in artificial intelligence and infrastructure technologies related to digital rights, data licensing, and the development of new digital economy models.

The announced $400 million financing commitment represents one of the largest early-stage startup investment commitments involving a technology group with Ukrainian roots.

The transaction's further implementation will depend on SignSplit meeting the agreed funding conditions, advancing its technology platform, and successfully expanding into international markets.
