Nestlé Invests $50M in New Vermicelli Production Facility in Western Ukraine

Swiss food giant Nestlé has launched the first production line at its new vermicelli factory in Smolyhiv, Volyn region, investing $50 million into the project

Nestlé has commenced operations at its new vermicelli manufacturing facility in the village of Smolyhiv, Volyn region, with plans to produce up to 5,000 tonnes of vermicelli by the end of 2025. The company also intends to expand production capacity by launching additional lines within the next two years.

This marks Nestlé’s fourth factory in Ukraine since it began operations in the country 30 years ago. The new facility is integrated with its existing plant in nearby Torchyn, forming a regional European hub for food production.

The project is export-oriented, with 75% of output intended for EU markets under the Maggi brand. At the same time, 75% of raw materials—including wheat and sunflower oil—are sourced from Ukrainian suppliers.

Alessandro Zanelli, CEO of Nestlé in Ukraine and Southeastern Europe, emphasized the strategic location of the factory in western Ukraine as ideal for both domestic and international logistics. He also noted that the plant is a modern, digital, and fully automated production facility.

According to Ivan Rudnytskyi, Head of the Volyn Regional Administration, the facility has already created over 300 new jobs, and the number is expected to exceed 1,500 as part of the broader manufacturing cluster in the region.

Nestlé has been operating in Ukraine since 1994 and owns well-known brands such as Sviatoch, Mivina, Torchyn, and Maggi. In 2012, Nestlé also established a business services center in Lviv, which now serves more than 40 countries worldwide.

Nestlé’s key business areas in Ukraine include coffee and beverages, confectionery, culinary products (sauces, seasonings, soups, instant meals), infant and specialized nutrition, breakfast cereals, and pet food.
